Edges. Life at the edge. Life on the edge. Life over the edge. Living next to the edge. Feeling the razor’s edge. Walking the edge. Crossing over the edge. Seeing the edge. Missing the edge. Unexpected edges. Swerving away from the edge.
Fearing the edge. Welcoming the edge. Feeling the tension at the edge. Never acknowledging the edge. Pretending the edge doesn’t exist.
Rough edges. Smooth edges. Edges as a hiccup. Edges as boundaries. Edges as change.
I didn’t realize it at first, but I’m getting dangerously close to an edge. I’ve experienced many edges in my life. Some where completely unexpected. Many of my edge experiences took my breath away in ways that were good, and others in ways that were bad. One that was so shocking and unimaginable, I’m still struggling to find words to define and understand.
This edge that I’m nearing, is one that has some warning. I’m approaching it with both excitement and nerves. Part of my way of coping with edges and their relation to change is to look for stories from other people who have experienced an edge similar to the one that I’m thinking I may need to cross.
In reading this, you might recognize yourself.
Being at the edge can feel lonely. It can feel exhilarating. It can be overwhelming. It can tear deep in your soul, and it can light your soul on fire. That’s the power of the edge.
The closer that you get, the more you can feel. The deeper you can see and, in those moments, know the sheer space after the edge.
Whether you approach your edge moments with joy or with fear, talking and sharing with others about these moments can mean so much. I hope you’ll enjoy walking with me looking for insights at the edge.
